Kathmandu- Players and officials of Nepali football team received grand welcome upon their arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport on Saturday.Nepali national football squad will enter the field with high resolve today as it eyes first international title in 22 years by winning this year’s Bangabandhu Gold Cup Football Championship. It meets Bahrain in the final at 4:45 pm NST at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka. Nepal defeated Maldives 4-1 in the semifinal on Tuesday to enter the final of international tournament in 17 years. The last time Nepal played final was in 1999 South Asian Games held in Kathmandu. Nepal had claimed Bangabandhu Gold Cup, their first major trophy after 23 years, defeating Bahrain 3-0 in the final at Bangabandhu National Stadium in Bangladesh. The last time they had won the gold was in 1993 South Asian Games—at the same venue.Thousands of football fans, Anfa officials, former players, friends and relatives of players reached the airport to welcome their heros. A rally was taken out from the airport to honour the champions. -
