LONDON — Shocking video posted on Vimeo shows an airplane aborting landing as Storm Imogen hits Britain with hurricane-force winds.The Alitalia airplane, Flight AZ222, which took off in Milan on Feb. 8, was attempting to land in London City Airport.The plane initially comes in for landing seemingly normal, until it begins to wobble and touches down on one tire before bouncing back up. Still unstable, the plane rocks side-to-side until the pilot was able to pull it back up into the sky.”This type of manoeuvre is practiced regularly by our pilots and was impeccably performed by the captain,” said Alitalia in a statement. “Our passengers were constantly kept informed about the procedure and were never in any danger.”Flight AZ222 as due to arrive at 3:35 p.m after leaving one hour late from Milan Linate Airport. It eventually landed safely at 5:13 p.m.Forecasters said the airport saw gusts of winds up to 53 mph, while the city faced winds of up to 100 mph, disrupting travel and power in Britain on the southern coast.Gale-force winds have brought down power lines leaving thousands of homes in South West England without electricity. An estimated 5,000 homes in Ireland have also suffered blackouts. -
