Former world heavyweight boxing champion Evander Holyfield, 53, and former UFC Heavyweight Champion, Cain Velasquez, 33, crossed paths recently and battled it out on the SportsNation punching power machine— a device meant to determine how much punch they’re packing!
Cain Velasquez punched a whopping 823 pounds of pressure in his best attempt, while Evander Holyfield came in behind and registered a still impressive 756 pounds.
The recent faceoff between these two popular fighters may fuel the flames of the ongoing war for superiority between mixed martial arts and boxing fans, but it is important to note that these results may not represent what they could have.
Being 20 years the senior of Velasquez, Evander doesn’t have too much to feel bad about, as Father Time has likely taken a little bit of the zip out of his punches. Then again, they say power is the last thing to go when it comes to aging fighters.
Either way, it would have been even more interesting to see the two have another go at it in their respective primes.
Evander Holyfield is best known for being boxing’s only four-time world heavyweight champion and defeating Mike Tyson two times consecutively in 1996 and 1997.
He retired in 2014 after three years of inactivity in the ring. Cain Velasquez, on the other hand, is still very much an active fighter and remains in the UFC title picture.
After suffering a recent back injury, Velasquez was forced out of his bout with current UFC Heavyweight Champion, Fabricio Werdum, which was previously slotted for Feb. 6. Velasquez would have become a three-time heavyweight champion had the bout take place and he won.
