Nepali men’s football team, who won the gold medal in the 12th South Asian Games, have been accorded grand welcome in Kathmandu on Wednesday.
Nepali Under-23 football team won the gold medal in the SAG defeating hosts India 2-1 in the final after a hiatus of 23 years. The team arrived in the Capital on Wednesday evening.
The office-bearers of All Nepal Football Association, senior Nepal Police officials, humour artists, singers and sports lovers, among others, had welcomed the men’s football team of Nepal.
Nepali strikers Prakash Budhathoki and Nawayug Shrestha scored the two goals in 66th and 70th minute of the match respectively to cruise Nepal to a scintillating victory.
India made a good start with first goal in the 32nd minute, netting a goal through a penalty.
Budhathoki equalized the scored through a free kick. Shrestha doubled the score which proved to be decisive to win the match and create a history in regional football arena for Nepal.
